Antiplastic fantastic - how to kick the plastic habit.

Dear Earthlings,

this post is a wake up call, because with this fucked up consumerism ego culture we will soon need another planet to live on.  Dubai is a wonderful, clean place, where you basically can't see any trash on the streets, because like using a magic stick, it goes away with a morning shift of hard working employees. So some people might even think that the trash fairy made it go away. I'm sorry to burst this little unicorn bubble.

I recently watched PLASTIC PARADISE (highly recommend it). I feel as though I've been thrown upside down and shaken around with all of the thoughts running through my brain since I watched this documentary. The reality is that every piece of plastic that has been created is still on Earth today. We dump trillions tonnes of waste in the ocean, and this is only growing. Some parts of the ocean are already turning into a plastic soup and it's estimated by 2050 there will be more plastic than fish. Over 90 percent of sea birds even in remote areas have plastic pieces in their stomachs and are killed by eating plastics. And that's fucked! Plastic itself is not a bad product, but we use it in the worst way possible. Using up resources just for a few minutes is not environmentally friendly. That's why, please refuse refuse refuse single use plastics!

Me not using plastic bags or straws, isn't going to save the world. But other people seeing me not do it, and us uniting as a society to solve the problems that we have created for the entire environment, that can implement the real change. The environmental issue is real, serious, and we need to move our lazy bums and brains a bit more. Please join me here on earth to go antiplastic and be a fantastic human!

How to start?  It's easy, just swap the shitty stuff for eco friendly versions:

1. Ditch the plastic bags

Plastic bags are almost never recycled and end up in oceans choking animals.  Let's reuse shopping bags or have a tote bag ready in you handbag.

Where to get a tote bag: Organic foods and cafe

2. Buy in bulk

Where? Organic foods and cafe, Carrefour, Ripe Market. Anywhere else? Please let me know! Btw. glass jars are sexy!

3. Fruit and veggies shopping

This can be really tricky because most food is wrapped in plastic nowadays. For delivery I'm very happy with  Kibsons as they send items without plastic packaging in boxes. I got my reusable fruit and veggie bags at Organic foods and cafe.

Where to get fresh, organic fruit and veggies : Ripe market,  Ripe Organic Farm shop the Palm, Organic foods and cafe, Green heart organic farms.

4. Food deliveries

Oh this is a tough one. I must confess I'm ordering at least 2 times a week. When ordering via Delivero or Zomato, just click the little box and say no to disposable utensils and you can also mention in the comments that you are fine just with one ketchup instead of four.

5. Say NO to disposable coffee cups

Seriously, takeaway coffee cups are the worst. They are used only once, the plastic lid is a disaster and only one percent is recycled. I'm a coffee junkie and there isn't a better feeling than enjoying a cup of coffee on cozy sofa directly in the cafe house.  If you're always on a run, buy a reusable cup such as Keepcup or Ecoffee cup and take it with you on your caffeine mission.

Where to get reusable coffee cups: HERE

6. Bye bye straws

Stop sucking! :))) If you can't stop it, buy yourself a steel one HERE and use it forever. Amen.

7. Water

Drinking bottled water is concerning to me as  plastic tends to release toxic stuff when heated. If you drink out of bottles that have been stood in 40°C heat, that will certainly have an impact on your body. And I'm not even talking about the amount of plastic waste we are producing daily! The tap water in Dubai, the government says is completely fit for drinking, even unfiltered.  However the quality of tap water often depends on the cleanliness of pipes and storage tanks in the building where we live. What is your experience?   I would really appreciate recommendations.

8. Easy bathroom swaps

I make my own toothpaste, lotions, body scrubs and sunscreen. I'm absolutely loving this because I exactly know what I'm putting on my body and I can create scents I really love. Citrus and vanilla forever!:) You can also make a huge impact just by switching out your plastic toothbrush for a sustainable bamboo toothbrush.

Where to get package free cosmetics: LUSH (however they use palm oil in their products), bamboo toothbrush HERE.

Eucalyptus face soap, Eco heart bamboo toothbrush, Lush body butter, DIY toothpaste (coconut oil, soda bicarbonate, essential oil)

Eucalyptus face soap, Eco heart bamboo toothbrush, Lush body butter, DIY toothpaste (coconut oil, soda bicarbonate, essential oil)

9. Swap the plastic baby crap

Say hello to old fashion durable wooden toys! Also eco friendly bamboo fibre kids ware are a great alternative to plastic ones. They are non toxic, biodegradable and BPA free.

High quality eco wood toys available at Cocoontoys and Harmonyhousetoys

Where to get bamboo fibre ware: Mumzworld or Sprii.

10. Recycle

While it's great to do, it's always better to avoid excess packaging in the first place. People tend to think that if something is made of plastic, it can be recycled. The truth is that even though certain type of plastics are recyclable, most people don’t put them in with recyclables so at the end they end up in landfills and oceans.  Please aim for the right bin. There are recyclable stations all over Dubai, even in front of my building in JLT, Spinneys in Meadows, Dubai Marina Walk. You can find them HERE. Or use HOMECYCLE. All you need to do is collect recyclables and request a pick up trough the website or the app.

The list goes on and on, but I think it's much more interesting, if you'll look it up and discover it for yourself. Even if you only adopt one thing, you’re still making an impact to reduce your carbon footprint. It's a journey. The whole idea is not to feel shitty or hopeless. All that matters is that you're becoming aware, more conscious in your choices and you're doing your best.

Privilee - the hottest membership in Dubai.

Hello beautiful mamas!

If you've been M.I.A like me, stuck somewhere between maneuvering nappies, picking up rice from the carpet or trying to cover the artwork of your tiny artist on the wall (with permanent marker!) I feel you!

Craving a bit of zen?  Dreaming about salty hair, cool pool and iced coffee?  Imagining yourself somewhere where you don't need to carry tons of toys, towels and....have a sand free car after a beach day? I hear you!

Look no further ladies, here is the perfect solution for your new holiday (ish) life! It's called Privilee!

Privilee membership

Privilee card gives you unlimited access to some of Dubai's, Abu Dhabi's and Fujairah's finest hotel beach clubs, pools, kids clubs and gyms. Add to that discounts at restaurants, bars and spas.

Now let's do the math. A daily access to a hotel beach club on weekend costs from 300 to 500 AED. Privilee card costs 499 AED per month when paying annually or 599 AED when paying monthly. Whaaaat? Yes, I know. Massive savings! You can literally spend 7 days a week in your preferred hotel all day long! And you could bring up to 2 kiddos up to 15 years old and also get a guest card for your family.

Privilee  is launching a special summer deal where you can sign up for 3 months (June, July, August) for 1500 AED. Hot summer in Dubai sorted!:) Check it out HERE

Since I've got this card, I dare to say there's definitely a Dubai before and Dubai after Privilee.

If you're a sunshine mama like me, here is a list of the best baby friendly hotels you should definitely visit with your Privilee card.

The St. Regis Saadiyat Island, Abu Dhabi is my absolute winner. The location, white sand, kids pools and the ultimate holiday feel. The only negative thing is the one hour trip to Abu Dhabi so we can't hang out there every day.

Club Mina, Dubai (Le Meridien and Westin Mina Seyahi) is our number one in Dubai. Two shaded kids pools, baby club, sand toys, cabanas, coconuts and cooling treats such as jelly. All  photos were taken here, as this club is just 5 minutes drive from our home and we LOVE it.

Sofitel the Palm, Dubai is extremely baby friendly. It has 2 pools especially for small kids and a great kids club with disco at 6 pm. Lots of palm trees and it feels like you're chilling on a Polynesian island.

Waldorf Astoria, Dubai is a hotel with a tranquil vibe, with a very nice pool and it is very welcoming for families.

Fairmont on the Palm is our top place for a croissant with a soy latte with a picture perfect view of Dubai Marina skyline. Everyone here is super nice so we always feel welcome. The kids club has lots of activities from a splash park and arts and crafts. The only downside is the the ongoing construction work.

DISCLAIMER: This is not a sponsored article and I really think that this card is the bomb. There is no catch, just pure bliss. If you are a, beach mermaid with babies this card is definitely for you.

Check it up HERE.

Happy Privileeging and see you on the beach!:)

Beach Booty.

With summer looming on the horizon, and hot, sticky weather coming, it's the time to get your beach booty back mama!

You’ve already given up your sinful tiramisu, you’ve been eating healthy and ordering Kcal.   And you’ve been waking up sweaty from doing push-ups even when you sleep. The struggle is real! On a mission to melt a few pounds, sometimes you need a little extra help. Ayurveda, massage and radio frequency? Say no more! It’s time for a little reward that will be like a cherry on top of chocolate cake and it will help your body to get contoured, gorgeous and poolside ready.

To get the miraculous toning procedure called ReShape, (suitable especially for new mommies), I headed down to the VLCC Slimming, Beauty and Fitness health club in Dubai Marina. Upon arrival, I was greeted by a team of friendly therapists. Before we started, I was told to stand up on the  BMI machine. This machine works by sending an electrical signal that travels through your body and the reading shows up as a percentage on the machine’s digital screen.  After that, the lovely therapist lady asked me which parts of my body do need the little extra attention.  I admire beautifully toned  legs and booty, so I pointed down.

The treatment began with an application of cream to protect the surface skin. Then she used the radiofrequency machine (a device that contours the body, stimulates collagen and claims to reduce cellulite). She pressed and massaged the area using radio frequency waves which felt like a tiny heating sensation. After 15 minutes on each part, the therapist started with a lymphatic drainage massage using a special ayurvedic cellulite gel.

After the session, I immediately felt that my legs were getting somewhat perkier. The manager explained the results of the BMI machine where I learned the values of my body mass index, percent of body fat, waist-hip ratio, basal metabolic radio, muscle, fat control and the overall fitness score of my body.

I also had a chance to try the Shape Up ayurvedic Waist & Tummy Trim Gel which releases and breaks down cellular fat into consumable energy and, flushes out extra retained water from your system and strengthens the skin’s surface. I’m loving the fact that it’s herbal and all natural and even though it doesn’t smell like heaven, it really works.

As a last poolside goddess touch up try this luxurious ayurvedic Gold Facial Kit with 24 karat gold for a luminous and radiant complexion. You cannot get more fancy than gold! I wanted to see some reviews about his product, before trying it. Indian ladies are praising this facial kit to heaven. I think this kit is especially good for dry skin and overall I’m really happy with it. My skin is beautifully soft and glowing.

If you’re keen to try some of VLCC’s reshaping, toning or slimming procedures, visit their branch at Marina Park Building, Dubai Marina or keep them on speed dial! Tel: 04 447 1488

Enjoy the summer! xxx

Beach baby - packing list for baby's first beach trip.

Beach time with 6 month old baby? It is a game changer but taking a baby to the beach is so much fun and essential if you want to have a future surfer girl! :))) By the way, have you seen videos of  Sky & Ocean Awsmkids? These kids blow my mind! #babygoals2020 :))) Ok, first things first. Here are a few tips how to get through your first day at beach with a baby like a boss!

Bathing suit and hat

I got Ninka's one piece pink polka dot bathing suit at Mothercare. It keeps her cool and also blocks UV rays. I suggest buying a bathing suit which comes down easily because it's almost impossible to get a soaking wet swimming suit off the baby. To go along with a cute bathing suit you have to have a cute hat.

Swim and regular diapers

You have two options here. You can either go for reusable swim nappies available on Dbbabies, Mumzworld or Noahsgarden or disposable ones. We are using Huggies Little Swimmers as I haven't found any disposable eco option.  Not many people know that they aren't a one use only items. If they haven't been soiled, they can be rinsed out and used again and again. This helps save so many nappies entering into landfill. Don't forget that swimming diapers don't absorb so you need to change them for regular nappies once the baby is out of the water.

I personally use Eco Tan natural coconut sunscreen SPF 30 for my baby. It has no hidden nasties and contains certified organic, all natural ingredients and it's perfectly safe for babies. You can also make your own organic natural sunblock, which I'm going to share with you in another post.

Hooded towels are the cutest!

We recently bought a small tent in Decathlon in Battuta mall. It's super easy to open up and wonderfully compact portable, lightweight and has sun protection SPF 30.

Baby carrier

One of the best thing is having a baby carrier with. But if you like to work on your biceps, triceps and assertiveness, try pushing a stroller trough sand:)))).

Plenty of water, milk and snacks

Ella's kitchen and Happy baby organic or Hipp Organic pouches are gold if you want to have a quick beach snack but please don't use them for babies on regular basis even if they are organic.  I've recently stumbled upon some bad reviews about Ella's kitchen labeling on the Pea and Broccoli pouches about misleading nutrition information. I suggest to have an open mind and also open eyes and read all the labels.

Pacifier for nap and baby's favorite toys

TIP:  Here is a little trick with cornstarch. Sprinkle some on your babies feet and you will have a silky and sand free baby in no time.

Happy beach time, xo Pipi

Eco friendly, organic baby essentials.

eco friendly baby products-1.jpeg

As an earth friendly mama, I love to use natural organic products and I also love to make them. I believe that if you want to be a responsible steward of our precious planet and its dwindling resources, educating yourself and making the right choices really is the only solution. I  did tons of research about organic, toxin free and healthy eco-baby products and below you can find a list of the best natural baby essentials we LOVE and use them daily!

Cloth diapers are the best option for reducing our baby's carboon footprint, but honestly, it's not always an easy choice. Luckily, the options of eco-friendly disposable nappies keep growing. NATY nappies are my absolute favorites. We are using them since our baby was born and she never had a nappy rash. They are very absorbent (last overnight without any problem) simple, cute, and chemical, chlorine and GMO free. Although they are more expensive than other brands, they offer me a peace of mind, keeping my baby girl comfortable without harming her skin or planet.

Most nappies unfortunately have chemicals in them. It's what absorbs all the pee and poop. Any bleached diapers should be obviously avoided and even though Pampers and Huggies are the most advertised ones and available basically at every shop, they belong to the worst category.

I usually use warm water and washcloth or organic cotton baby pads but I do like to keep wipes when it get's stinky or when we travel. Standard  baby wipes contain lots of nasties  and it's very difficult to find a chemical free option.  I'm recently using Water wipes made only from two ingredients, purified water and grapefruit extract. Pretty amazing. I also loved wipes from NATY.  If you have hard time depriving yourself of the convenience of disposable baby wipes, your best bet is to avoid anything scented and antibacterial.

Ingredients to avoid:

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate or Sodium Laureth Sulfate

Parabens, Methylparaben

Polyethylene Glycol (PEG)

If you're not sure if your product is safe, check out the skin deep database for hazard ratings here.

I'd like to keep it as natural, organic and nasties free as possible. I started to use baby wash once my baby girl reached 3 months and from that time we stick to Natures baby Organics. The vanilla tangerine scent is amazing and so is the product. No parabens, mineral oils, derivates or other nasties.  The  packaging is BPA, phthalate, lead and cadmium free. Fabulous stuff.

I use a mix of coconut oil and olive oil and it works miracles! You can't go wrong with coconut oil, I feel that this is something that every person should have it in their arsenal, it has so many uses, outside of baby care. It is antibacterial, antifungal, antiinflammatory, helps to get rid of baby's cadle crap and does a killer job at moisturizing.

Happy bottom, happy baby! We never had a rash but as a mom to be I bought Bentley Organic Baby Nappy Cream  and I love to use it on my baby's bottom. It doesn't smell like heaven but my mom swears that it's the best cream for eye puffs:)))

Honey, you need some pampering!

Hello Ladies:)

Today it will be all about pampering! Because nothing feels more luxurious to our buddha-licious bodies than a prenatal massage.

I didn't realize this before, but there are lots of spa treatments you can't actually have when you're expecting. For the safety of your baby, the treatments are only offered to mommies beyond their first trimester.

My number one pampering experience hands down is the mummy massage at SensAsia Urban spa at Emirates Golf club.  The spa itself is very nice and relaxing and they provide everything from slippers, robe, locker, towels and showers. The staff here is just brilliant, all of them, from the ladies at the reception to the therapists that treat you. Miss Poj, my amazing therapist from Thailand laid me on my left side on the bed with big pillows tucked in front of me and between my knees with one arm under my head pillow, so she could reach my back. She explained that she will only apply natural almond oil to my skin. Using natural skin products is especially important for use during pregnancy.  This is because the young developing baby skin is very sensitive to all substances as it is much thinner than adult skin, very permeable and will easily absorb substances into the blood stream. Babies are therefore more susceptible to damage from toxins applied to the skin.  My massage was ridiculously good. After one hour of pure bliss, she continued with facial. Another 60 minutes of heaven! After the massage ended, Miss Poj offered me a ginger tea and veggies to munch on.

Tranquil environment, superb massage, pure bliss and happy me!:)

Pregnancy products reviews - Eye on stretch marks

I am almost 24 weeks pregnant and my tummy has obviously swollen. It looks like a little balloon now, even though I only gained 6 kg.  Many new mamas have concerns about how their body will change in pregnancy.  Let me tell you one thing. I believe that if you are happy, satisfied, you do some exercises and think positive, your body will easily adjust. We've been created for this mission super mommies! Sure, you might feel heavier or see stretch marks for the first time, but remember, you are not alone! Pretty much every woman has them, and they are totally normal, beautiful consequences of our bodies growing and changing. Of course, all boils down to genetics I recon (Thank you mama!) But, there are also some beautiful products out there that can do miracles for you  while your bumps grows.

  • Mamma Mio The Tummy Rub Oil
  • Bio-Oil
  • Palmers Cocoa Butter Formula - Massage Lotion for Stretch Marks

I'm a fan of natural products and I have tried a lot of them. I've been recently obsessed with Mamma Mio The Tummy Rub Oil. It's little on the expensive side, but it works wonderfully and it's perfectly safe for the baby.  I put it on 2 or 3 times a day and the consistency is so good that I'm using it all over my body. Even for sunbathing. What I love about this product is that it's a blend of natural oils (almond, argan, avocado, rosehip) with to nasties in it (no parabens, PEG's, synthetic fragrance or colorants).  It penetrates deep into the skin and soaks in around 15 minutes after applying. This is unlike some other oils for instance the celebrity loved Bio-Oil which leaves stains on your clothes. And it should not be called "bio" as it contains such a high proportion of mineral oil, which is known to clog pores and could eventually lead to break outs. Just saying. Tried, tested, but our relationship with Bio-Oil didn't last too long as it last with Kim Kardashian:)) The most popular in the stores and among mummies is probably the budget friendly Cocoa Butter from Palmers. It is rich and creamy, keeps the skin nicely soft and it's suitable for non preggies too. It contains cocoa butter, shea butter, collagen  and vitamin E but unfortunately it's not all natural and didn't do the trick for me. I have also heard a lot of good things about Mustella Stretch Marks Double Action Cream. This product is definitely on my wishlist!

Verdict : the winner is.... Mamma Mio The Tummy Rub Oil! Perfection in a bottle!

Please feel free to share your pregnancy products tips too!

Shedd app, charity and donating unwanted items.

Since I know there is a little living soul in my tummy, the first thing that popped into my mind was that I need to get rid of the clothes and stuff I wore or used less than once. With this changing super body, you'll not be able to fit into your favorite jeans for a looong time anyway. And you'll need to create more space for the baby and tons of the cutest baby stuff! So I decided to do a closet detox while making some money. And as the online world is the new frontier,  the best way to do it is to use a super easy local application SHEDD which you can download to your android or IOS device. Then all you have to do is create a profile, take pictures of your unwanted clothes, write the price, describe your items, use hashtags and sell! It's also a bit social in sense that you can follow someone else's closet.  I can't recommend this app enough.

The second option is to turn your items into cash, the dubizzle way

Something that's been sitting in your house, unused and unloved, may bring a great joy to someone else. Therefore, I strongly  encourage you to do  your research and check out local options for unwanted items like women's shelters, charity shops or animal shelters.  There are also quite a few charity boxes across town and once you start looking you'll notice them. There is one in Jlt in Cluster Q  and in the  Mall of the Emirates. You may also consider asking the security guys or maintenance guys (assuming there are some men's clothes). They may be able to either use them or sell them.

Another thing you may consider is donating your unwanted items to Stray dog center UAQ. They are having  Garage sale where they raise some money for doggies.  If you have clothes, shoes, baby items, books, toys, furniture or household appliances please contact them for more info.

Happy shedding and donating!

Preggo time!

Hello ladies! It’s been a long time.  But I’m back! I hope you all had a lovely Christmas wherever you were and whatever you did. I wish you all a wonderful New Year full of happiness, love and blessings!

Speaking of blessings, this year Santa has been very generous. I not only got after 32 years of my life some nice boobies for Christmas (finally!), but I’m also expecting our bundle of joy.  I'm overloaded with happiness!

Pregnant life is a completely new experience, happy, but also life changing. Sometimes it might feel like a life of a pensioner. Minus the parties and shopping. Plus the crazy hormones and emotions! You will find yourself walking on the third floor of Dubai mall,  crying over the sight of the tiny little cool stuff for babies. Your head will be spinning from all the new gear you never ever imagined you will EVER need. Hello kitty hoodies, fairy skirts and I come!  Suddenly the old you disappears. It's  you and the little (avocado, pineapple) in your tummy. A proper miracle!

So from now on, this section will probably be my favorite, and I will update you on all things that preggos can do to enjoy this amazing time.
